Overnight Trip in Matabungkay Beach

Hubby and his colleagues planned to have an overnight swimming in Antipolo because it’s an hour away from where they work.  But two days before the said event, hubby told me that instead of going to Antipolo, we’re going to Lian, Batangas. One of their colleagues, who happened to have a grandmother in Nasugbu, insisted to have the outing in Matabungkay Beach and requested to drop by at her lola’s place for a sumptuous lunch before we go back to Manila. I had no choice but to go with their plan. :( We left Manila at around 8:00pm and instead of taking the SLEX, we took the Emilio Aguinaldo Highway in going to Matabungkay. Yup, that was a long ride. All of us were starving to death but we were saved by the sandwiches they prepared in the car on our way to Batangas.

We reached Lian, Batangas at exactly 11:00pm hoping that we would be at the same place where my hubby’s colleague had gone to a year ago. Some men started to follow our car and offered a place to stay. Of course the price was too pricey for us! Thank God Alfred managed to haggle at the best price. The humble house made of bamboo and nipa has only one room, a not so okay toilet/shower (the door was busted) and no aircon or fan. Well, what do you expect for a P600 house huh! Since we only needed that for sleeping, taking a bath and leaving our things, it’s was actually a good deal. :) We won’t be staying there most of the time right?! Oh, the bamboo float… it was given to us for only P500! Yey! Haggling really works! Lol! The whole night to dawn was spent for eating, drinking, swimming and chitchats. ;)

Hubby and I were not able to have a good night sleep at all for it was already dawn and in a few hours, the sun would be up.  We took a walk along the shore while waiting for the sunrise. Matabungkay beach had a lot of improvement. No litters around, perhaps tourists are more disciplined now and throwing the garbage in the right place. In addition to that, the locals maintain the cleanliness of the place. The place is beautiful, enough for you to relax and enjoy without spending that much. A day trip to this place can take away your stress, great time to bond with loved ones  too.

The gang became interested with snorkeling. We had rented a pedal boat for P200 per hour. Little did we know that the pedal boat was too slow. It even consumed a lot of time in going to the snorkeling area as well as in going back to the shore. Nothing much to see there… aside from the small school of fish who were so tiny. The corals were almost dying (I guess) because it was not as colorful and alive as snorkeling areas in Bohol. Upon hitting the shore, hubby and I went swimming though I had no plan of getting wet. We had fun that day. Oh, what a quickie overnight outing. ;)

daytime swimming is the best ;)

For affordable rentals of nipa hut and bamboo float, you can contact this person who I happened to spoke with that day:(or should I say, interviewed?) Mang Toto Bausas – 09484971047. House & float rentals are too high during peak season, which is April.

Laiya, Batangas: Lucky 7 Beach Resort

Going to Laiya, Batangas instead of Lemery was actually my younger sister’s idea. Since our parents celebrated last year their 32 years of being happily married, we decided to have a post celebration of their wedding anniversary. Little did we know that it would be our last outing with our dad…. :’(

Lucky 7 Beach Resort, Laiya, Batangas

It was a sister of a friend, who personally knew the owner of the resort, who made an arrangement and reservation for us. She was able to get us a discount of P1500. Yey! ;) None of us had gone to Laiya that’s why everyone was so excited to go there. The small nipa hut that costs P3500 (inclusive of the discount) has an airconditioned room with queen sized bed and extra mattress,  toilet, mini refrigerator, and a gas stove. Great deal huh! Since we were a big group (7 kids + 10 adults), we even occupied the balcony for sleeping… Lol!

Most of the resorts in Laiya, Batangas are expensive. It ranges from P5000 and up. Splurging a bit won’t make you feel bad at all because the place is clean, nice and safe. In fact, the barangay tanods do their rounds at night to make sure that everyone is safe. :D

After we unpacked our things and had lunch, the kids went to the beach and started to swim without paying any attention to Mr. Sun’s hotness! ;) Of course, the adults didn’t like to have any sunburn that’s why instead of dipping into the water, we decided to tour around the place and had some photo shoot. Our dear parents were left as well as my other sibling for they look after the kids. ;)

Laiya Coco Grove Resort has an off-beach swimming area where the water is shallow. During low tide, the swimmers and snorkelers can walk up to 100 meters on clear sand beach very close to a coral reef. FYI, this resort has security guards armed with guns. But guess what, we were able to sneak in the resort and enjoyed the pool! hehehehe…. We tried to act as guests so that the guard wouldn’t notice that we were trespassers. :D But before the guard discovered our agenda, we left the resort after 30 minutes of having fun in the pool then went back to our resort.

The next day we woke up early to catch the sunrise. And we took the opportunity to walk around the western side of Laiya to see some of the resorts located in the area. As soon as we got back at our resort, we hit the beach and had fun swimming until 11:00am.
